The Story

We manifest creativity and self confidence through interactive ENRICHMENT video lessons built to develop fine motor skills into cognitive growth. Our video programs were developed by Wendy Anderson Halperin, renowned children’s book artist and author, and are built for home study and enrichment but are also suited for the classroom. Children can learn at their own pace and master each skill, strengthening their weaknesses and enforcing their strengths. Research has shown, by developing fine motor skills, children have a greater ability to learn, comprehend, and develop.

Wendy shares her S.T.E.A.M. and literacy work she developed through her non-profit, Drawing Children Into Reading, with you now through this partnership. DRAWN TO DISCOVER is a “for-profit”, set up to support Drawing Children Into Reading. We also offer support to other organizations across the world looking to use this amazing work to help raise money for their causes through promoting visual literacy, creative growth, awareness of perception, increases in concentration, development of memory, and the fun of learning we deliver through Drawn To Discover.

Wendy Anderson Halperin

Wendy Anderson Halperin is a renowned children’s book author and artist, educator, presenter, former advertising creative director, and visual literacy pioneer. After spending several years working for major advertising agencies in New York and Chicago, Wendy set off to San Francisco to further study art and develop her own skills. She became a children’s book artist and spent many hours in classrooms drawing with children. She always noticed a lack of consistency with pencil grip and began to contemplate the struggle with this motor skill children were having. One day while drawing and listening to a radio newscast, she learned of a trend therapists were developing for Alzheimer’s patients centered around learning to knit to re-develop their fine motor skills. The theory was that the fine motor communication from the fingers and thumb with the brain helped build or retain cognitive development, memory, and thinking. She began to study, research, and interview experts in this field and quickly tied it to the pencil grip struggles she observed in early elementary classrooms. This learning fed the development of her literacy program and non-for-profit, Drawing Children Into Reading. Now, over twelve years into the success of DCIR, she has partnered with the Drawn To Discover team to bring this visual literacy program to the web for everyone to experience.

Now as the project manager, her hard work, organizational skills, and a deep respect for the power of learning through drawing, she is dedicated to the mission of empowering children and teachers with a visual vocabulary. She continues her commitment to the project because all children deserve fine motor skills, a proper pencil grip, and a lifetime of being able to convey meaning through imagery.
